Jan McGinley is a distinguished creative renowned for his exceptional ability to capture the essence of life in every shot. With the focus on pure image quality. Music has always played a huge part in Jan’s life, After learning five musical instruments, he bucked in the streets of Adelaide from seven years old. When Jan was ten, he gained a love for taking photos and wanted to take it to the next level. He began researching how to improve his skills and busked for two years to save up for his very first intermediate camera. Jan was fortunate enough to attend his cousin’s wedding where he picked up a love for portrait photography. At the age of twelve he shadowed the wedding photographer for his cousins wedding and gained love for the art of photography. Jan had doubts throughout his teenage years that photography could be enough for him as a career but realised that he could turn any passion into a career with enough dedication and excellence in any endeavour. Jan decided from then he didn’t want to work a normal job long-term and committed the next few years into establishing a foundation in the professional photography scene. From the age of fifteen, Jan got lucky on his former youtube channel as his videos began to gain traction. Accumulating over five million views within a month span and managed to fund his love for photography. After his short stint on youtube, He had purchased industry professional equipment and began working as a professional photographer from the age of sixteen. His first shoot paid him $60 and from that moment on, he had gained enough experience to take his business to the next level. Over the next four years, Jan carved a niche for himself in the world of photography through his unique style, technical prowess, and dedication to the craft despite major backlash received from his fellow peers for doing things differently than the norm.

Born with an innate passion for visual storytelling, photography and film has always played a huge role in Jan’s life. His early experiences fuelled his desire to learn and grow, leading him to pursue formal education in photography. He honed his skills through rigorous training, earning a reputation for his keen eye and creative vision and respected by his fellow peers in the Industry.

Jan had his work-ethic engrained in him from his upbringing as he was always taught to work for everything and nothing comes easy in life. Everything that Jan has invested from, a photography standpoint has been self-funded and took vigorous hours of hard work to afford all the needed equipment to shoot professionally. Jan has had none of his equipment given to him, he worked and purchased everything required out of his own pocket except for his education which was highly valued by his parents as a foundation for any career and was always a strong contribution to his success in any endeavour that Jan perused.

Aside from his photography, Jan is also a signed model for The Models in Adelaide, he is also a videographer and has won multiple awards in the film-industry as a director, cinematographer and actor. In 2018, Jan played a lead role in an award-winning short film, Reticent. Aside from acting, Jan had won the 2023 Bond University Film and Television Awards as a category winner for his sport documentary and had been a runner up the previous year. After completing a Cert III in Photography and Film, Jan was offered full acceptance into Bond University but turned it down to obtain a Degree in Real Estate which he is currently studying. Jan seeks to incorporate his marketing expertise, photography experience into his Real Estate career where combining these skills can seperate his work from the rest. In 2024, Jan had the privilege of being the stills photographer for the movie Numbered Lives, a thriller filmed in Adelaide featuring Jeremy Piven.

Throughout his career, Jan has worked on a diverse range of projects, from authentic portrait sessions to grand event photography. His ability to connect with subjects and capture genuine emotions has made him a sought-after photographer for weddings, engagements and family portraits. His portfolio is a testament to his versatility and commitment to excellence.

In addition to his photographic endeavours, Jan is a dedicated mentor and educator. He shares his wealth of knowledge through his online course, and one-on-one mentoring with peer-assisted feedback, helping aspiring photographers unlock their potential. His passion for helping others and his approachable demeanour has and will continue to inspired many to pursue their dreams in any career they decide to partake in.
